Free V&A code and instructions for setting up navigation usage-tracking in Google Analytics

A post on the V&A Digital Media blog is a quick overview of how you can use Google Analytics Event Tracking to capture exactly how visitors make use of your on-site navigation.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what people get up to, this method will capture all the use of your navigation. Once you build up data, you can challenge what you think people do, with what they actually do.

It has examples of what a visitor would see compared to what you can see as behavioural data in the Analytics reports.  The full JQuery code we use and a brief explanation of how it works is all there for free re-use.

The data it captures can be analysed using all the standard Analytics tools like Advanced Segments, standard reports like Mobile traffic etc.
