Consultation in the sector has proved a real hunger for a self-sustaining forum where museum professionals can share skills, knowledge and expertise.
London Museums Group’s Share London is an exciting new scheme that hopes to provide the answer. The scheme aims to support professional and personal development and make the excellent skills sharing that already goes on in the sector more accessible. We hope everyone involved – whether receiving support or giving it – will benefit from developing new skills and making new contacts.
Anyone – paid or unpaid - working for museums and related cultural organisations in London can register offers of support and needs through this web site. Offers can be anything from stewarding at events or offering unused equipment to offering workshops, job shadowing and mentoring.
The offers and needs are searchable by categories and key words so you can find the support you need or find someone who needs your support. If you are offering to share, you are encouraged to be specific about how and when you want to do that (for example, phone advice on Tuesday afternoons or contact via email in first instance). This is to ensure you are able to manage your offer effectively and not be overwhelmed with requests.
The development of Share London has been supported by Renaissance through the regional programmes department at the Museum of London.
You have to be a member of London Museums Group to participate in Share London.
