Resilient Collections | innovative practices in digital preservation and engagement

Date | Wednesday 24 April 2013

Time | 10am – 4pm

Location | National Motor Museum, Beaulieu

The Hampshire Solent Alliance’s Resilient Collections event will share the outcomes of  the Arts Council England funded Resilient Collections project focusing on digital preservation and engagement.

Representatives from the Hampshire Solent Alliance museums will speak on three innovative projects:

  • Piloting High Definition Film archiving: Developing cutting-edge digital content, infrastructure and know-how, through testing the potential of High Definition (HD) film capture technology and developing and sharing best practice in audio-visual digitisation
  • Digital preservation needs audit: Identifying the digital preservation needs of the wider museums sector in the Hampshire-Solent area, building on methodologies developed for the Alliance partners in 2011/12 and understanding the potential of High Definition digitisation in the sub-region
  • Heritage 100: a website which showcases a hand-picked selection of interesting and quirky objects online, giving visitors the opportunity to access images and learn about their history and where they came from.  At the heart of the project was a programme of targeted outreach activity with older people using digital technology.

The day will give you the opportunity to learn about the exciting digital projects undertaken by the Hampshire Solent Alliance museums, as well as hearing from experts in the field of HD film transfer, digital preservation and audience engagement. There will also be the opportunity to see the High Definition Spirit telecine in action and visit the National Motor Museum.

The day will run from 10am to 4pm, with refreshments and lunch included.
