Museum Mentor Workshop (Accreditation)

10.30am – 4pm, 11th March 2013, Surrey History Centre

Museum Mentors are museum professionals who support smaller, independent museums in the United Kingdom in developing applications for Accreditation and subsequent Accreditation returns. Arts Council England coordinates networks across England to support both Mentors and through them, the museums receiving support.

Existing members, and colleagues considering taking on the role of Mentor are welcome to attend.

This workshop seeks to bring Mentors together to share knowledge, offering a structured workshop with the aim of supporting Mentors in understanding:

  • the Mentor role in relation to Museums Accreditation
  • the Accreditation Standard, and how this is applicable to smaller, as well as larger museums
  • the role of the Accreditation Assessor, and how the assessment function works

The workshop will also offer an expert speaker focusing on a ‘hot topic’.

As part of the workshop we will also be seeking to hear from Mentors, and asking how Arts Council might best support them in their role.

Travel expenses: Arts Council England recognises the voluntary support provided by Museum Mentors to independent museums across England. In order to support Mentors in their role/s Arts Council will meet up to £50 of the cost of attending the Museum Mentor workshops during March 2013. Expense claims should be for travel only and based on receipts and/or details of car journeys. Claims should be made in line with Arts Council’s ‘Expenses Policy for service providers’.
