Museum Development Officer

Hampshire and the Solent area

We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to deliver museum development services across the Hampshire and Solent area. The successful candidate will be developing and maintaining relationships with museums across the sub-region, and providing interventions to strengthen future sector sustainability and enable organisational development.

Educated to Degree level, you’ll have sound experience of working within a museum or heritage organisation and a good understanding of national museum policies, professional practice and standards, including Accreditation. You’ll be able to provide advice on strategic development issues and have a knowledge of practical measures to improve sustainability. You’ll be skilled at work effectively with multiple stakeholders and be able to empathise with and have an understanding of museums in sub-region. In addition you will be experienced in managing museum development projects.

You must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

Job purpose

Manage and deliver the Hampshire and Solent Museum Development Service. Develop and maintain effective relationships with museums across the Hampshire and Solent area, local, regional and national agencies and other stakeholders. Provide interventions to strengthen future sector sustainability and enable organisational development. Provide professional development advice, information and support to museums within the Hampshire and Solent area.

The Service is externally funded by Arts Council England and it is linked to the regional South East Museum Development Programme which is managed by a consortium consisting of Brighton and Hove’s Royal Pavilion (the lead partner), Hampshire County Council Arts and Museums, the Oxford ASPIRE Consortium and Chatham Historic Dockyard. Its duties will include actively contributing towards cross-regional sector programmes and agendas.
